The American Quartet was a four-member vocal group that recorded for various companies in the United States between 1899 and 1925. Original first tenor John "The Canary" Bieling had to retire because of chronic throat illness in September 1913. He was replaced by Robert D. Armour, who himself was replaced hardly two years later by Young. With the death of Hooley in October 1918 the quartet lost a few hardcore fans. Hooley's recording career had spanned almost 30 years, and he was called the "King of the Quartet Basses." Some of the earliest Gospel Music recordings are by this group. The American Quartet was the first vocal group to fully embrace and cultivate ragtime music, so they practically are the fathers of all the jazz and novelty groups that followed later.

★ Bridge (Oklahoma City OK)
A vocal/instrumental ensemble based out of Oklahoma City OK., on Impact Records, a division of Benson Music; 1977. Bridge was created by Jim Van Hook. "The concept behind massed US gospel group Bridge was developed by director and arranger Jim Van Hook. Featuring eight musicians as well as six singers and an integral sound technician and road manager, Van Hook pooled this talent from across the USA in order to tour around churches singing energized devotional music. With personal testimonies from those involved, there was something unique about the Bridge’s live performances, though they never adequately transferred that to their studio recordings. These included three albums in the 70s for the Impact label, featuring several standards alongside material from Phil Johnson, Lanny Wolfe and Dallas Holm." Source: AllMusic.com Google Search

The Golden Gate left the shore's of America in the early 1950's and found fame and fortune in Europe. They were based in Paris, France but performed throughout the world, except for America. It seems our musical tastes change all too quickly and as a consequence talented performers here either leave the business or leave America.
Upon hearing that the Golden Gate Quartet were coming back to America, the Smithsonian Institute invited them to attend a ceremony in Washington, DC. The Gates declined that invitation because they felt it would detract from the real reason they came back to America which was to be honored by UGHA. Orlandus Wilson, spokesman for the 'Gate made note that UGHA was the only organization in over 40 years that remembered the Golden Gate Quartet. They in turn honored UGHA by performing at a meeting show the evening before the Hall of Fame. It was easy to see why they still play before sold out concerts around the world. I Want Two Wings is from the LP "Negro Spirituals Anthologie" Vol. 1, that the Quartet recorded while in France in the mid 50s, under the label EMI/Pathe Marconi. This is In my opinion, the best formation of the Quartet, with Orlandus Wilson (Bass), Clyde Wright (Tenor), Clyde Riddick (Tenor) and Julius Caleb Ginyard (Baritone). At that period they had also started to embrace the mix between spirituals and swing/jazz and were regularly accompanied by a band as can be heard on this song.

Are We Supposed To Use Musical Instruments In Church? Yes! or No!
The New Testament never specifically mentions jets, trains, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, hoverboards, skateboards, skipping or several other methods of modern travel. Does that mean we are to walk everywhere? Should we be limited to horses, donkeys or wearing sandals when taking a journey? Of course not. So, sorry all you no instrument folks, but since worship in the Old Testament used instruments, and we are still worshipping the one and only same God, I am sure that instruments being properly used in worship is just fine. God does not change, and God liked singing with instruments in the Old Testament, so I believe God still likes singing with instruments today. Acupello is okay, and the use of instruments is also okay.
What is really important, in my opinion, is to have correct doctrine in a songs lyrics, and to not indulge in repetitive occult chanting phraseology that is antithetical to Christianity. We should try to not support musicians that are churning out music from false churches such as Hillsong and Bethel Redding. Christian music should be easily differentiated from ungodly secular genres. Decent music should also be worshipful, respectful to God, and spiritually uplifting, not infused with violent Rap, heavy metal Rock-n-Roll or other such worldly musical traits. The difference should be easy to see, thus maintaining a true witness to unsaved people! This is not to say all secular music is bad, an example being Isn’t She Lovely by Stevie Wonder, and many instrumental creations.
